Prof. Dr. Anil Kumar Sharma completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) in July 1993 at SDM College of Dental Sciences, Dharwad, Karnataka — one of India's most respected dental institutions, affiliated withRajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.
He proceeded directly to postgraduate specialisation, completing his Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics in February 1996 at KLE Institute of Dental Sciences, Belgaum. Karnataka.
The MDS in Orthodontics is the postgraduate specialist qualification formally recognised by the Dental Council of India, requiring an additional three years of full-time supervised clinical and academic training beyond the five-year undergraduate dental programme.
It is the qualification that defines a specialist orthodontist in India, and the foundation of every treatment plan Prof. Dr Sharma has developed in over 30 years of practice.
Following the completion of his MDS, Prof. Dr. Sharma began his academic career with a three-year period of clinical training under Dr. P.P. Sahni, an eminent orthodontist, before joining formal academic practice.
His teaching career has spanned 25 years and seven institutions across India.
He joined Guru Ram Das Institute of Dental Sciences and Research, Amritsar as Senior Lecturer in November 1999, was promoted to Reader in November 2002, and served the institution until June 2005. He subsequently held Reader and Associate Professor positions at Sudha Rustagi Institute of Dental Sciences and Research, Faridabad, before joining PDM College of Dental Sciences, Bahadurgarh as Professor and Head of the Department of Orthodontics in December 2007.
He has since held Professor and Head positions at Desh Bhakt College of Dental Sciences, Muktsar, Punjab, K.J. Mehta Trust College of Dental Sciences, Amargadh, Gujarat, and People's College of Dental
Sciences and Research, Bhopal.
He is currently Professor and Clinical Director of Postgraduate
Studies in the Department of Orthodontics at KDC, Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh — overseeing the clinical training and academic development of postgraduate orthodontic students alongside his private practice
at Smile & Profile Dental Clinic in Jammu between 2000-2005, switching the practice to Align Orthodontics, Gurugram from 2005 onwards.
This sustained academic career — spanning 25 years and institutions across Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh — reflects a commitment to the development of orthodontic education in India that
extends far beyond individual clinical practice.
Prof. Dr. Anil Sharma is a published orthodontic researcher with nine peer-reviewed publications inindexed national and international dental journals. His research spans clinical case management, treatmentplanning methodology, pharmacology in orthodontic practice, and surgical-orthodontic coordination — reflecting the

In addition to these primary-author publications,
Prof. Dr. Sharma has contributed as co-author to
a significant body of orthodontic research published
in peer-reviewed journals.
Throughout his career, Prof. Dr Sharma has maintained a commitment to continuing professional development. That reflects his academic rigour. He has attended and participated in more than 20 national and
international orthodontic conferences and continuing dental education programmes — including
the World Congress on Orthodontics (New Delhi, 1997),
the 3rd Triennial Commonwealth Dental Association Congress
(New Delhi, 2000),
The International Orthodontic Congress (Jaipur, 2000), and multiple Indian Orthodontic Society conferences.
His specialist training has included advanced workshops in
the straight wire technique, segmented arch mechanics,
lingual orthodontics, clear aligner therapy,
micro-implant anchorage, orthognathic surgery planning, and
distraction osteogenesis — conducted by some of the
most respected names in international orthodontics
including Prof. Dr Ravinder Nanda at AIIMS, New Delhi,
Dr Thomas Mulligan and Dr John Bennett.
This breadth of continuing education — sustained over three decades — ensures that the treatment planning and clinical techniques at Align Orthodontics reflect current best practice in specialist orthodontics.
Prof. Dr Sharma's clinical philosophy has remained consistent throughout his career and is expressed in. The objective he set himself at the outset of practice: to deliver the highest standard of orthodontic care to patients, and to teach the same standard to the next
generation of specialists.
In practical terms, this means every patient at Align Orthodontics receives a complete diagnostic work-up —OPG, lateral cephalometric radiograph, clinical photographs, and digital study models — before any treatment is discussed. It means that every treatment
plan is built on clinical evidence, not on commercial preference or patient pressure. And it means that Prof. Dr Sharma personally oversees every case from initial assessment through to final retention — because the clinical decisions made throughout active treatment
are as important as the initial plan.
Thirty years of academic practice have shaped a clinician who understands that the quality of a specialist's work is measured not at debond, but at the ten-year recall. Stability, function, and long-term
health of the teeth, periodontium, and temporo-mandibular joints are the criteria by which treatment success is genuinely judged.

AAID Certification in Implant Dentistry — American
Academy of Implant Dentistry | Certified Training
with Ivoclar, 3M & Dentsply Sirona | Specialist in
Ceramic Laminates, Veneers & Smile Makeovers
Dr. Sonia Sharma completed her Bachelor of DentalSurgery (BDS) in 1995 at A.B. Shetty Institute ofDental Sciences, Mangalore, Karnataka — one of
India's most respected private dental institutions affiliated with Nitte Deemed to be University.
She has practised clinical dentistry for over 30 years, developing a specialist focus in implant dentistry, restorative and cosmetic dental treatment.
Her formal implant dentistry credential is acertification in Implant Dentistry from the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, a structured one-year certification programme requiring demonstrated clinical competence, examination, and peer review in the full implant treatment cycle.
The AAID is one of the most recognised professional bodies in implant dentistry worldwide, and its certification programme
sets a formal, internationally validated standard that distinguishes credentialled practitioners from those with only short-course exposure to implant treatment.
Beyond implant dentistry, Dr Sonia Sharma has completed multiple certified training programmes in aesthetic and restorative dentistry with three of the world's leading dental materials manufacturers. Her Ivoclar certification covers the clinical application of IPS e.max and lithium disilicate
ceramic systems — the material of choice for all-ceramic crowns and high-aesthetic laminates. Her 3M certification covers their adhesive
restorative systems and composite layering techniques. Her Dentsply Sirona training encompasses their restorative and endodontic product lines, ensuring her clinical protocols reflect current manufacturer-validated best practice.
This combination of formal AAID implant certification and manufacturer-certified training with Ivoclar, 3M, and Dentsply Sirona gives
Dr Sonia Sharma a verifiable, multi-domain clinical foundation that directly benefits every patient she treats at
Align Orthodontics.
Dr Sonia Sharma's approach to cosmetic dentistry is guided by a principle that is increasingly rare In an era driven by social media aesthetics, that the most successful cosmetic dental result is one that
enhances what the patient naturally has — not one that replaces it with something visibly artificial.
Every ceramic laminate case begins with a
comprehensive planning stage — including a wax-up that allows the patient to see and approve the anticipated outcome before any tooth preparation takes place. Shade selection is always performed in natural daylight, not under artificial dental chair illumination. And every completed case is reviewed against the original diagnostic records to confirm that the clinical result matches the planned outcome.
This discipline — applied to treatments that many clinics perform as high-volume, quick-turnaround procedures — is what characterises Dr. Sonia Sharma's approach to every cosmetic case at
Align Orthodontics.
Dr. Sonia Sharma's clinical work at Align Orthodontics encompasses the full range of cosmetic and restorative dental treatment. In implant dentistry, she places and restores single tooth implants and multiple implants — with all surgical planning supported by CBCT three-dimensional imaging and OPG radiography.
Cases requiring bone augmentation or sinus
augmentation prior to implant placement is
assessed and planned individually.
Her cosmetic dental work includes ceramic laminates and porcelain veneers with a full pre-operative wax-up and digital smile design, professional in-office teeth whitening or bleaching systems, composite veneers and direct bonding for minor aesthetic corrections, complete smile makeovers combining multiple treatments in a coordinated sequence, and crown and bridge restorations using
zirconia and all-ceramic materials.
For patients requiring comprehensive treatment across multiple disciplines, Dr. Sonia Sharma works in close coordination with
Prof. Dr. Anil Sharma to develop and execute integrated treatment plans that address
both functional and aesthetic goals simultaneously.
